Gun or No Gun
Our nation
was founded by brave men, and those brave men carried guns. Some of our nation’s
highest officials are trying to pass laws and convince the public that gun
control will solve our problem against mass shootings. “As part of a package of
steps to reduce gun violence in the wake of the Newtown school massacre last
month.” This was said by President Obama in a recent interview. If we follow through
with these gun control laws resulting in banning all firearms, our country is
doomed. Think about this, drugs are illegal; they always have been and how is
that working out for us? They still surround us. If guns end up banned, they
will still be all over the U.S. But instead of everyone having them, only the
criminals will possess them. A gun will stand like anything else in this world;
if we want one bad enough, a law will not hold us back. Being able to own a gun
is a right that we as Americans have, that most other countries don’t have.
It’s plainly stated in our constitution.
Also, guns give people security. For example,
my Mom travels all across the U.S. by herself. In a certain instance, she had
been in a bad part of Tennessee where her car broke down. She was afraid but knowing that she had her
45 in the console if she needed it reassured her.
Something that hits deep with me is
hunting. My whole family is big on hunting; we hunt a wide range of animals
including: deer, duck, dove, turkey, geese, and cat. Hunting is how we get most
of our meat for the winter and what we spend most of our free time doing.
What I’m getting at is, from my point
of view, there is absolutely no reason to ban guns. We need them for self-protection, hunting, and
recreational reasons. But most importantly, it’s one of the rights we have as American
citizens!
